The Inspiration Behind Betty Buzz, Blake Lively’s Sparkling Beverage Line

Blake Lively launched Betty Buzz, her very own non-alcoholic sparkling beverage in September 2021, after three years of development.

Blake is no alcohol drinker, however, enjoys mixing drinks and cocktails when hosting parties, and when socializing, she enjoys virgin cocktails and drinks. The mother of three realized that most traditional mixers used for spirits and cocktails cannot be enjoyed on its own, thus inspiring her decision to create a sparkling drink that can be mixed and enjoyed as a virgin drink as much as it would be enjoyed when mixed with alcohol.

During a recent interview with Forbes, Lively shared, “I’m the at-home mixologist. I’m always making drinks for people. I don’t drink. I will sample a drink if I’m making somebody a beverage with alcohol and taste it to make sure it tastes good, but the mixers that were available to me were things that I would not drink unless they were doused with alcohol.”

On the Betty Buzz website, Blake Lively states, “Over the past many years of mixing but not drinking cocktails, it became clear mixers are the unsung heroes of the drink world and deserve just as much love as alcohol.” Several virgin cocktail recipes can also be found on the Betty Buzz website.

The 100% natural sparkling drink is available in five different flavors, namely, Tonic Water, Sparkling Grapefruit, Meyer Lemon Club Soda, Sparkling Lemon Lime, and Ginger Beer. It’s made with clean ingredients only which includes real juice, no artificial flavors, sweeteners, and colors, is gluten free and vegan friendly.

The Betty Buzz founder also shared that she hasn’t done any marketing on her product until seven months after its release as she wanted her brand to grow authentically on its own merit. She went on to say, “It’s been amazing to see how well-embraced this company has been, when we actually haven’t done any marketing. We waited seven months before we did our first piece of marketing because I really wanted the brand to be able to subsist on its own merit, on its own flavors, on the experience that you feel even when walking into a store and seeing it on a shelf.” Within those seven months without any marketing, Betty Buzz sold 2.5 million bottles!

Lively created her very first Betty Buzz ad in April 2022 with her husband Ryan Reynolds’ production company called Maximum Effort. Reynolds is also the founder of Aviation Gin which he founded in 2006. Not only are they the perfect match as a couple, but their brands are the perfect match too as Lively’s Betty Buzz drink has also been promoted as a great mixer for gin!

In a recent ad for his Aviation American Gin, Reynolds and his mother can be seen using his wife’s Betty Buzz club soda to mix a gin punch called “Mother’s Ruin Punch” as a Mother’s Day drink.

Wondering what inspired the name Betty Buzz? Lively shared that her father’s mother and his sister were both named Betty. Furthermore, she also named her youngest daughter Betty, who was born in 2019. She paired the name Betty with Buzz, as her sparkling drink is filled with plenty of bubbles!
