Christmas Dessert: The Decadent Gingerbread Trifle

It’s the most beautiful time of the year, a time for family, gifts, and delicious desserts!
What better than a decadent, quick and easy Gingerbread Trifle to compliment your Christmas dessert table?

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 900ml of thickened cream

  • 1 cup (330g) of caramel sauce

  • 250g of sour cream

  • ⅓ cup (40g) of icing sugar, sifted

  • 800g of gingerbread cake

  • 90ml of marsala or brandy

  • 1 ½ teaspoons of cinnamon

  • 200g of crumbled gingerbread biscuits

  • 2 separate bowls

  • 3L trifle dish

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Take two separate bowls and evenly divide the thickened cream into each bowl.

  • Add caramel sauce to one bowl and whisk until thickened.

  • Add sour cream and icing sugar to the second bowl, whisk until thickened.

  • Cut gingerbread cake into 2cm thick slices and layer one third of it over the bottom of the 3L trifle dish.

  • Drizzle one-third of marsala/brandy, one-third of cinnamon and one-quarter of the gingerbread crumbs over the gingerbread cake.

  • Top the above with one-third of the caramel sauce, and then one-third of the whipped cream mixture.

  • Repeat the layering process until ingredients are used up. Top up your trifle with gingerbread biscuit crumbs.
