Shonda Rhimes, the creator of one of the most popular television series “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” published her first book called “Year of Yes” in 2015, a memoir that speaks about how she spent a year saying yes to things that scared her, and that were out of her comfort zone.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of one of the most popular television series “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” published her first book called “Year of Yes” in 2015, a memoir that speaks about how she spent a year saying yes to things that scared her, and that were out of her comfort zone.

This book was inspired by a conversation Shonda had with her older sister. The two were discussing the many invitations Shonda has been receiving which she had not considered accepting. Her sister responded with six words that stuck with Rhimes – “You never say yes to anything”. These words have inspired her to dedicate a year of saying yes to stepping out of her comfort zone, changing her attitude on life completely.

Shonda uses her experiences to encourage the reader to say yes to using your voice because your voice could inspire someone else. Not much of a public speaker, Shonda agreed to do a graduation speech which she was a great success at. This inspires the reader to go for it, because you never know how it may turn out!

She also encourages the reader to say yes to loving and looking after yourself. Insecure about her weight, Shonda said yes to changing her eating habits and exercising more.

She also started saying yes to removing all the things and people in her life that did not bring any value to her life.

“Year of Yes” is the perfect book for encouragement to explore your capabilities by stepping out of your comfort zone, to give things a try.
